Winners and Losers of October 2020

Sales of local assembled vehicles continue to observe an upward trajectory with 29% increase on year-on-year basis in October 2020 according to the data released by PAMA (Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association). An encouraging 14,054 units were sold in October 2020 compared to 10,853 units sold in the same month a year earlier.

On month-on-month basis however, the overall car sales increased by mere 1% mainly due to the negative growth of Honda Atlas which saw an 18% reduction in sales whereas Pak Suzuki suffered from a 7% decline on M-o-M basis. However that 1% increase was driven by IMC as sales of Yaris got increased by 26% whereas the rest of their lineup which includes Corolla, Fortuner and Hilux saw 8%, 94% and 45% increase on month-on-month basis respectively.

Each month we bring you the Winners & Losers comparison, where winners are those which saw an improvement in sales over the previous month and losers being those which witness a decline in sales. While most of the models saw an increase in sales in October over September 2020; there were some which suffered from a decline.

The Winners chart was lead by a strong performance of Toyota with Yaris emerging as the bestselling car of the month. Fortuner saw a whopping 94.3% increase in sales followed by the Hilux the sales of which increased by 44.5%. Toyota Corolla despite discontinuation of 1.3L variants in favor of Yaris was still able to post a 7.8% sales growth in October. Others in the list which saw some improvement in sales were Suzuki Bolan, Cultus and the Wagon R.

Suzuki Ravi was the biggest loser of the month followed by Isuzu D-Max which was again able to find just 22 buyers while witnessing a 35.5% drop in sales from previous month whereas Suzuki Swift also saw a considerable decline of 28.5%. The key thing to note is the worsening performance of Honda Atlas the sales of which suffered by 10.8% in case of BR-V whereas the City & Civic combined sales saw 18.9% decline in October 2020.
