2021 Mazda 3 Gets Even Better

The multiple award-winning Mazda 3 has just been upgraded for the 2021 model year in Japan. These updates which are more performance oriented rather than being cosmetic in nature will likely begin reaching global markets in the following months.

The most significant upgrades are incorporated with the 2.0L SkyActiv-X engine which gets improved spark-controlled compression ignition (SPCCI) combustion process and software updates for the engine and transmission control units enabling an increase in outputs to 188hp of power and 240Nm of torque.

Plus the 1.8L SkyActiv-D turbo-diesel engine offered with JDM Mazda 3 has also seen a power increase from 114hp to 127hp, following revisions to the combustion process and sharper powertrain response above 3000rpm.

Other improvements include revised coil springs and dampers that enhance the suspension’s movement and as Mazda say “suppress vibration transmitted from the road surface to the inside of the vehicle, improving dynamics performance and riding comfort.”

The adaptive cruise control feature in the 2021 Mazda 3 has also been tweaked to improve its smoothness and “better suit human characteristics”, while the maximum operating speed of ‘Cruise & Traffic Support’ system which, according to Mazda, “can assist with driver fatigue by automatically operating the accelerator and brake pedals… and assist with steering to keep the car in its proper lane” has been increased from 55km/h to “the higher-speed range”.
