Chinese automakers seems to have taken the lead as Geely was the first automaker to introduce the N95 certified Intelligent Air Purification System (IAPS) in its Icon SUV in March earlier this year. Now Malaysian automaker Proton, which comes under the influence of Geely, has announced to start offering N95 cabin filter for four of its existing models– the Saga, Persona, Iriz and Exora from July. The N95 cabin filter was first introduced with the Proton X70 SUV in May 2020.

The N95 filter is designed to provide a cleaner environment in the cabin for extra peace of mind. According to automaker, it can filter out 95% of particles larger than 0.3 microns and 98% of PM2.5 dust particles. The N95 filter works for both fresh and recirculation mode.

Earlier this year another Chinese automaker Changan has also started to offer N95 certified ‘PM0.1’ air filters in its cars which are devised to filter fine dust particles & provide additional protection to the occupants of the vehicle, ensuring a safer & healthier journey. Both Proton and Changan are in process of introducing their sedans and SUVs in Pakistan which are expected to become available either towards the end of this year or by early next year.

While the N95 cabin filter is now a part of automobile equipment, it should also be made available to the cars (new & old) sold in our country. Safety & precautions are always better than remedy so having such filters installed in vehicles can be handy, especially for those who are frequent travelers.
