After 27 Straight Months Honda N-Box Dethroned By Daihatsu Tanto

Daihatsu Tanto kei car topped the new vehicle sales rankings in Japan in the month of November, grabbing the 1st position from Honda N-Box, according to the data from data from Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association.

The N-Box was unseated for the first time in 27 months.

Sales of Daihatsu Tanto surged 90% year-on-year to 21,096 units. The Tanto, which was fully revamped in July this year, won support mainly from Japanese families with children for its functionality and affordable prices.

The N-Box ranked second, with sales of 18,806 units, down 3.5% whereas Suzuki Spacia ranked third with sales of 12,820 units, followed by Nissan Dayz, with 12,137 units.

Mini cars (kei-jidousya) or simply kei cars in Japan are vehicles defined by amongst others being shorter than 3.4m with a maximum height of 2m and a maximum width of 1.48m. The engine capacity is restricted to 660cc measured by the Japanese standards.
