The 2020 Toyota Raize cosmetically differentiates itself with its Daihatsu cousin. The fascia is dominated by a broad trapezoidal grille that is flanked by squared-off bumper corners, vertical fog light and LED DRLs. Apart from the front end, the rest of the things remain pretty much same between Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky.

Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that sits above the center air vents, below which are the switchgear for the automatic air-conditioning system and start button, while the two-tier center console houses the gear selector, power outlets, heated seat controls, stowage areas and the handbrake.

Despite compact dimensions, there is plenty of space inside. There is 900 mm space between the front and rear seats. The boot features a dual-level floor that at its lowest position results in 369 liters of boot space.

In terms of safety, there is Daihatsu’s Smart Assist suite of driver assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, all-speed adaptive cruise control and front and rear Erroneous Start Prevention Function with braking control, along with a Smart Panorama Parking Assist system that provides steering assistance and visual and audible guidance when parking.

Under the hood, there is a 1.0 liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine making 98 hp of power and 140 Nm of torque and comes paired to a D-CVT gearbox which split gears to provide both gear drive and belt drive at high speeds for increased efficiency. WLTP fuel economy figures for Toyota Raize are 18.6 km per liter with front-wheel drive and 17.4 km per liter with the optional all-wheel drive with Dynamic Torque Control.
