2020 Changan Star Commercial Pickup Launched in China

Changan has introduced the all new 2020 model of the Star commercial pickup series in the Chinese market.

The vehicle now adapts a new fascia with X shaped grille and redesigned bumper that makes it look more connected to the new breed of Changan passenger cars. The black & chrome elements up front give it a rugged SUV-inspired appearance.

The interior which seems to have lifted from its minivan sibling (Karvaan) adorns a coffee brown/ beige color combination with silver accents whereas the new meter cluster & multi-information display is illuminated in orange instead of blue. The seats and upholstery has been improved while there is an armrest added for the convenience as well.

In order to provide a better load bearing capacity, better strength and rigidity than the previous radial beam setup, Changan has now introduced more powerful rectangular tubular beam setup. Other improvements include Bosch ECU, Fuyao windshield, reinforced chassis, Mitsubishi-sourced engine technology with optimized fuel distribution and improved EGR application. Projector headlamps, power steering, power windows, power locks, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, adjustable headlamps, air-condition/ heater and AM/ FM radio with Bluetooth & USB input are some of the key features included.

There are 3 powertrain options available. As with the facelift launched last year, the new Star pickup comes equipped with a 1.5 liter DAM15R1 naturally aspirated engine with a maximum power of 112 hp and a peak torque of 142Nm. Then there is a slightly more powerful 1.5 liter DAM15KR engine that produces 116 hp and 150 Nm. Lastly there is a smaller 1.2 liter JL473Q engine with 98hp and 119 Nm also on offer. All engines are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Prices start from 35,400 yuan (PKR 7.84 lac) for the base 1.2 liter variant. The 1.5 liter DAM15R1 engine variants are priced between 41,400 yuan (PKR 9.71 lac) and 44,600 yuan (PKR 9.87 lac). The powerful 1.5 liter DAM15KR versions start from 41,400 yuan (PKR 9.71 lac) and goes as high as 48,400 yuan (PKR 10.72 lac).
