Alto 660cc Breaks Highest Monthly Sales Record

The Alto 600cc is doing wonders for Pak Suzuki. Having replaced the 30-year old Mehran in June, the new entry level hatchback went on to become the bestselling car within a couple of months, despite a horrific market slowdown.

Now the new Alto 660cc has breached company’s highest-ever monthly sales record. In September 2019, the Alto recorded sales of 4,924 units breaking the previously held record of Suzuki Mehran which was 4,684 units.

Despite the fact that Pak Suzuki has given the car two major price revisions within a span of three months, the sales of Alto 660cc are soaring. In the first quarter of this fiscal year the Alto sold 12,943 units averaging 4,314 units a month. This figure is more than the combined sales of all 1300cc & above cars including City, Civic, Corolla and Swift– the cumulative sales of which were 9,953 units in the same period.

Similarly, sales of 1000cc cars stood at 5,766 units, less than half of Alto’s individual sales, while the entire Pak Suzuki lineup consisting of Swift, Cultus, Wagon R, Bolan and Ravi sold just 8,955 units combined, during the first quarter of this fiscal year.

The remarkable success of Alto is also attributed to lack of other available options as even the import of used JDMs was curbed by the government earlier this year. And while Honda Atlas and Toyota Indus are observing non-production days due to lack of demand and piled-up unsold inventory, it is the Alto 660cc that has kept Pak Suzuki alive & kicking. Otherwise sparing Alto, Pak Suzuki is also suffering from a horrible -68% decline in sales.
