Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) that was working on the electric vehicle (EV) policy to be presented in the upcoming cabinet meeting has decided to withdraw due to concerns from the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP), according to The Nation.

MoIP had asked MoCC not to intervene in affairs of the auto sector, which came under the concern of the industries ministry. Also there is some serious hindrance from local automobile industry, the representatives of which also met Advisor to PM on Climate Change and convinced him that their business will be affected due to introduction of electric vehicles in the country.
According to The Nation, spokesperson of ministry of Climate Change, Muhammad Saleem confirmed that the ministry did not present EV Policy before cabinet due to interference of Ministry of Industries and Production.

He said there is need to shift on electric vehicles and to bring revolution in transport sector of the country. According to the (now) shelved policy, 30% of the vehicles would go electric by 2030, special economic zone were to be established where electric rickshaws, cars and buses were to be manufactured thus generating immense job opportunities for youth. Furthermore, MoCC also planed to allow duty-free import of electric vehicles in bulk under this EV policy.
