Proton Captures Highest Market Share in Malaysia in 47 Months

Malaysian automaker Proton has captured an 18.1% share in its home market last month, its highest share figure since July 2015. Proton sold 7,615 units in June, which is a 23% increase compared to June last year, helping the brand finish second in the sales table for the third consecutive month.

The X70 SUV continues to be one of Proton’s star products with 15,175 units delivered in the first half of this year. Sales of the Proton Saga also continued to grow with 2,541 units delivered in June, contributing to a volume growth of 27% in the first quarter.

Other models which are now updated with intelligent features, are performing equally well with bookings for the 2019 Proton Persona, Iriz and Exora increasing by an average of 108%, 180% and 135% respectively.

According to Proton Chief Executive Officer Li Chunrong:

For the second half of this year, Proton would concentrate on continuing to excite the market further by introducing new and updated models as promised at the beginning of the year.

Proton having teamed up with Al-Haj Automotive is in process of launching its range of vehicles in Pakistan. The plant being constructed in Karachi will become operational by June 2020 with 1.3 liter Saga sedan as their first offering. According to Proton Chairman Syed Faisal Albar, Pakistan will become Proton’s gateway to penetrate other markets while the company is studying to introduce other models in our market as well.
