The 12th gen Toyota Corolla 1.8 Hybrid has won the ECO Car 2019 (EKO Auto 2019) award at the 54th International Motor Show in Belgrade. The award recognizes the best environmental performance among automobiles available in the Serbian market.
The all-new Toyota Corolla hybrid wins the title by beating 11 other eco cars competing in the category. These include BMW 3 Series, Citroen C4 Cactus, Ford Focus, Honda CR-V, Kia Ceed, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Opel Combo, Peugeot 508, SEAT Arona, Suzuki Jimny, and Volvo S60.
The competition, in its eighth year running, was organized by automotive market communications agency Metro Market in cooperation with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS), the Serbian Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), the Road Traffic Safety Agency, vehicle testing firm AMSS-CMV, Balkan Green Energy News (the Center for Promotion of Sustainable Development – CPOR), and the Eko-mobilnost magazine.
Robert Lukić, CEO of Toyota Serbia, said upon receiving the ECO Car 2019 award, that Toyota’s experts considering the future of mobility, came up with the idea to create a hybrid car 22 years ago, which gave birth to Toyota Prius. Toyota also seeks to ensure the manufacturing process itself is not polluting the environment, and is very close to no negative environmental impact, Lukić added.
The 12th generation Corolla has already received a 5-star crash test rating by Australian NCAP, while its hatchback version has won the 2018 IIHS Top Safety Pick Award.
