Hyundai and Kia Wireless EV Charging and Autonomous Parking Concept

Aiming for year 2025, Hyundai and Kia’s electric vehicles of the future will be able to autonomously charge and park themselves. Called the concept of electric vehicle wireless charging system with automated valet parking system, its mission is convenience. Soon, owners will be able to command their cars to park, charge and then, when fully energized, pick them up simply by using their Smartphones.

The process starts by drivers commanding their electric vehicle to charge from their phones. The car will then autonomously cruise to a charging station and then, when fully energized, will relocate to a vacant parking space. This then enables another EV that is waiting to re-charge to park in the free station. If the driver wishes to find their car again, it will simply cruise and return to them when signaled from their phone.

The concept aims to provide a solution to the overcrowding of both parking and charging locations as EV numbers grow. The process involves the continuous communication between the car, parking facility, charging system and the driver. Hyundai and Kia hope to have the technology in the market by year 2025 along with the launch of level 4 autonomous vehicles.
