Indus Motors, for the fourth consecutive fiscal year, has managed to sell more than 50,000 Toyota Corolla sedans in Pakistan. No other car in Pakistan has ever managed to achieve the feat of selling more than 50,000 cars in a fiscal or calendar year.
51,412 units of Toyota Corolla were sold in FY 2017-18 which is 2.3% less than the sales of FY 2016-17. The second best seller remained Suzuki Mehran which recorded highest ever sales of its lifetime in a fiscal year. Mehran sold 46,221 units which is also the first time ever when it managed to surpass the 40,000+ sales barrier. Honda Civic and City combined sold 42,810 units in FY 2017-18 which is 14% higher than FY 2016-17.
Toyota Corolla surpassed Suzuki Mehran in 2009 to become the highest selling car in Pakistan and since then its position in the sales chart remains unshakeable. Pakistan also has the highest Corolla sales in Asia Pacific region and ranks 4th in the world in terms of sales volume.
Each generation of Corolla has become more successful than its predecessor. This is evident from the sales statistics in Pakistan. Ever since the 11th generation Corolla was introduced (2014), Indus Motors (IMC) has been able to sell more than 50,000 units in each fiscal year, the feat which previously no other Corolla generation has been able to achieve.
Indus Motors have sold 212,938 of the 11th generation Toyota Corolla during the last 4 years. Compared to this, Honda Civic and City combined sold 129,202 units during the same period which is just 60.6% of Corolla sales.
The 11th generation Corolla was launched in June 2014 and received a facelift in August 2017. The Corolla is available with 3 engine options in Pakistan- the 1.3 liter 2NZ-FE, 1.6 liter 1ZR-FE and 1.8 liter 2ZR-FE. Recently the company has introduced an automatic transmission option with the base 1.3 liter XLi variant, which is further expected to boost the sales of the sedan in Pakistan.
If you have an ownership experience of the Corolla, and 11th generation in particular, feel free to share with us.
