2019 FAW Besturn B50 Facelift Launched in China

FAW has launched the 2019 facelift for their popular B50 sedan in China. The B50 sedan is placed under FAW’s upscale Besturn sub-brand, which is targeted towards upper-middle class buyers in China, however the brand does reasonably well in export markets too.

The Besturn B50 is considered as one of the finest Chinese vehicles and FAW’s best-selling model since nearly a decade. The B50 was first unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2008 and went on sale on May 16, 2009. Developed in cooperation with Italdesign Giugiaro, the B50 is based on Mazda6 platform since FAW had joint venture with Mazda, so the technology acquired to develop the B50 was licensed.

The current second generation B50 was introduced back in 2016 and was due to get a mid-life refresh. The 2019 FAW Besturn B50 facelift gets a revised front grille replacing the old three-bar design with a new decorated four-bar pattern. The underside of the grille also get a new design treatment as well as new updated LED DRLs on either side of the front bumper.

As for the interior the 2019 Besturn B50 facelift gets an orange-black themed leather adorned interior. Other changes are found at the center console, where the LCD screen has been moved to the lower side and gets an increase in size from 7 inch to 8 inch. The control button layout has been revised whereas the car gets a new gear shift lever. Overall the materials used in the interior are said to have been improved as well.

In terms of configuration, the 2019 B50 facelift will be equipped with ABS+EBD, Driver/ Passenger & Side Airbags, ESP (electronic stability program), GPS navigation, Bluetooth, reversing camera, parking sensors, smart phone connectivity, alloy rims, heated exterior mirrors, sunroof, Mp3 player, remote key, central locking and engine immobilizer etc.

The engines are carried over from the pre-facelift models. There is a 1.6 liter 109hp naturally aspirated unit paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine producing 136hp and 220n-m mated to a 6-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission).

The 2019 FAW Besturn B50 facelift is priced at 85,900 yuan (PKR 15.51 lac) for the 1.6 liter version and 104,900 yuan (PKR 18.94 lac) for the 1.4 liter turbocharged DCT variant.
