The City is a popular subcompact sedan by Honda, slotted below the Civic sedan primarily meant to be sold in Southeast Asian market. However today the Honda City is considered a prime choice in the subcompact sedan segment in Asian and Australian region.

The City is currently in its 6th generation which was introduced in international markets back in 2013. Honda Atlas in Pakistan however, have skipped this generation as they continue to sell the older 5th generation City in Pakistan since January 2009.
In international markets, the 6th gen Honda City had received a facelift in early 2017 and is due to be replaced by a newer generation model by 2019/2020. According to reports Honda has started working on to develop an all-new 7th generation City, but how the popular subcompact in its latest iteration will look like, remains to be a mystery.
There are speculations off course, as fans from various markets are eagerly waiting for the new City to arrive. Based on the available information so far, here are some of the possibilities regarding how the next generation Honda City might look like.
Earlier this year, Paultan published the renderings of the next generation Honda City with front and rear end inspired by Honda’s new design language. Inspired by the new Insight hybrid prototype showcased at Detroit Motor Show, the renderings show the City carrying Honda’s new family face with a prominent ‘flying wing’ chrome bar and U-shaped grille. At the rear the renderings show Honda’s new wrap-around taillights that cut deep into the boot lid.
These renderings pretty much blend the current 6th gen profile with the front and rear end of the Insight’s design language. Bear in mind the new Honda Accord which has won the North American Car of the Year Award also carries the same design language.
Honda C001 Concept
The second theory is called the Honda Design C001 concept. Honda had introduced this design study at the 2017 Qingdao Auto Show in September last year. The C001 will reportedly form the basis of the Next generation China-spec Honda City.
The C001 concept previews a long four-door coupe. At the front, it has slender LED headlights, a large “H” logo in the center, pentagonal side air vents and a black trim that falls from the outer ends of the headlamps. At the sides, the concept looks like a typical low-slung 4-door coupe with a very narrow floating roofline. At the rear, the large C-shaped tail lights appear inspired by the tenth-gen Honda Civic, and they are connected to each other in a way similar to the headlights.
New Honda Insight
The third theory suggest that the new City will be heavily inspired by the Honda Insight itself. Instead of a tall shrunken subcompact, the next gen City will be reminiscent to the modern range of Honda cars such as the new Accord, 10th gen Civic & the Insight as a 4-door saloon with fastback styling.
The Insight’s design itself is a proper blend of the tenth-gen Honda Civic and the tenth-gen Accord. The elegantly designed front-end is very similar to that of the Accord, while the profile bears an unmistakable resemblance to the Civic. At the rear, the new Insight has a clean and minimalistic design, wraparound tail lamps with LED lighting, chrome bumper garnish, and a subtle deck-lid spoiler.

It’s quite likely that the next gen City will follow Honda’s recent design language. We will have to wait for the initial sketches or renderings that will ideally surface towards the end of this year. It is also reported that the next generation model will sport more powerful engines and will possibly be available in more than one body configurations, just like the Civic. So one can expect a coupe and a hatchback as well.
