Hyundai’s popular hatchback, the Santro is going to make a fresh comeback into the entry level hatchback market in India. As per sources, the South Korean auto maker is planning to launch the all-new 2018 Santro by August this year.
The new 2018 Santro will act as a replacement for the aging Hyundai Eon as the latter will not meet the upcoming Indian safety regulations. The new Santro will be based on the old i10 platform and will also use the i10’s 1086cc engine with approximately 70 bhp of power and 100 Nm of torque. Of course the engine will be re-tuned extensively for modern day usage & to meet the current emission norms while offering certified fuel economy of over 22 km/ liter.
The new Santro will also make use of Hyundai’s first ever AMT (automated manual transmission) as well as a 5-speed manual gearbox. Reportedly the new Santro will also get class leading features and space.
The new 2018 Santro will compete against Maruti Alto K10, Renault Kwid and Tata Tiago. The new Santro is expected to be priced around INR 3.0 lac (PKR 5.07 lac).
The Hyundai Santro under Dewan’s umbrella have seen some successful time in Pakistan during the previous decade, however it is yet to be seen if the South Korean manufacturer intends to sell the Santro in India only, or it will make its way to other markets including Pakistan. Bear in mind Hyundai partnered with Nishat group, is in process of making a comeback in our country and the groundbreaking ceremony of their plant in M-3 Industrial City Faisalabad has already commenced in December 2017.
