Hyundai Verna Wins 2018 Indian Car of the Year Award

The Hyundai Verna has won the 2018 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) award edging out the popular Maruti Dzire subcompact sedan. 

The fifth generation Verna was launched in India during August, earlier this year. In the first two months it outperformed rivals including the Honda City and Suzuki Ciaz. The new Verna so far has got an impressive 24,000 units booked in India. 

By December, Hyundai India has exported more than 2,000 units to Saudi Arabia while it will be exported to South Africa, Gulf and other Asian countries in 2018.

Other Hyundai cars that have won ICOTY award in the past include Grand i10 (2014), Elite i10 (2015) and Creta (2016). The Hyyndai Verna is priced from INR 8.0 lac (PKR 13.4 lac) to INR 12.69 lac (PKR 21.3 lac) and is available with 1.6 liter petrol and 1.6 liter diesel engines mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox options.

Hyundai is in the process of making a comeback in Pakistan partnered with Nishat group and will be offering a range of vehicles, most likely including the Verna. It will be interesting to see how the Hyundai Verna performs here particularly against the established players of our market.
