Daihatsu DN Compagno Concept at 2017 Tokyo Motor Show

Daihatsu took the wraps off five concept cars at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, the most eye-catching being the Daihatsu DN Compagno. The Compagno name makes a comeback since it was retired in late 1960’s.

The DN Compagno is a retro-looking four-door, four-seat coupe with a dome roof. According to Daihatsu, the car prioritizes the relaxing comfort of the two front seats, combined with a high-quality interior.

It’s no sports car, but a sleek cruiser targeted at “active seniors” who like to enjoy “individual lifestyles”, as opposed to regular seniors looking for maximum comfort and practicality. The coupe aims to provide “colorful support” to the post-retirement lives of these seniors.

The styling is more retro-futuristic, drawing cues from the original 1960’s Compagno coupe, which can be seen standing right beside the new DN Compagno concept.

Inside, the dashboard reveals an infotainment control surface which blends seamlessly into the fascia. The cabin has red contrast stitching and suede trim and chrome accents to uplift the cabin. Daihatsu is expected to offer it with a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine or a 1.2-litre hybrid powertrain, whenever the car heads to production.
