Hyundai Reina Sedan Unveiled

Hyundai Reina Sedan Unveiled 1

Hyundai unveiled an all-new entry level sedan, called as Hyundai Reina at the 2017 Chongqing Motor Show, which could hit the Chinese market later this year.

Based on the previous generation Hyundai Verna, the Reina has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm and will slot below the new Hyundai Verna. The exterior design is based on the latest version of the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, featuring a hexagonal grille with a glossy black mesh, swept back halogen headlamps, angular fog lamps, and small multi-spoke alloy rims. The waistline gradually rises to give it’s rear-end a stubby look, and houses vertical tail lamps, a clean boot lid and a wide windscreen.

The interior will come equipped with a touch-screen system with Apple CarPlay and Baidu’s Carlife system. Under the hood is a 1.4L naturally aspirated petrol engine with 95 hp, mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.

In order to attract more prospective buyers from key markets towards their brand, Hyundai is creating low cost, budget-oriented sedans exclusive to a market that meets local requirements. For instance, in India there is Hyundai Xcent, Brazil has the Hyundai HB20S sedan, and China will soon have the Reina to take on its rivals.

Most global automakers’ new cars are being designed and premiered in China and are then launched in other markets. Hyundai Verna, Chevrolet Sail, Chevrolet Sonic (rebadged Aveo), Baojun 630 (rebadged New Chevy Optra), Kia Pegas, Toyota Yaris L sedan and BMW 1-series sedan are such examples.

With Hyundai in process of making a comeback in Pakistan, partnering with Nishat Group, we can only hope that someday, cars like the above will be available in Pakistan against a reasonable amount of money. However it’s too early to say anything at this stage.
