Earlier this month, Dewan Motors announced that the company was expected to start assembling vehicles by the end of October 2016. According to reports a 1600cc SUV was to be introduced in collaboration with Ssangyong. And just a couple of weeks later that 1600cc has been spotted testing on our roads, it’s the Ssangyong Tivoli.
Several images of the Tivoli were spotted & posted by people on social media, although the branding & emblems were well camouflaged, yet the vehicle is quite easily identifiable. Images posted below are taken from Pakwheels forums & KarachiTrack’s facebook page.
The Ssangyong Tivoli comes with a 1.6 L e-XGi160 engine mated to 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic gearbox. The car is named after the Italian town of Tivoli, and was chosen because it can be read as “I love it” in reverse. In UK the Tivoli is priced from £12,950 which converts into PKR 17.39 lac and comes equipped with features such as 16″ alloy wheels, Cruise control, Engine Stop & Start system, RDS radio with Ipod & Bluetooth connectivity, Remote keyless entry, Smart steering, 7 airbags, ESP, TPMS, Height adjustable driver’s seat as standard.
High end variants are equipped with Dual zone climate control, 18″ alloy wheels, Full leather seats, Heated front seats, 7″ touch screen, Reversing camera, Front fog lights, Smart instrument cluster, Smart keyless start, Front and rear parking sensors, Automatic headlights, Rain sensing wipers, Automatic dipping rear view mirror & Power folding door mirrors etc.
Subcompact Crossover SUV are becoming quite popular in recent years in Pakistan. Honda Vezel, Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V & recently launched BMW X1 are the options currently available in the market. The Ssangyong Tivoli has a fair chance of capturing a good share of this market if the vehicle is priced sensibly and comes with good after sales support. More details to follow, stay tuned.
