This was confirmed by Yoichiro Ueno, the new president and CEO of Honda Cars India. Talking about the new Brio series, Ueno said,

“It is a global model and not exclusively for India. Honda’s R&D is developing some new platforms mainly in Thailand but in collaboration with Japan and India.”

The said platform will underpin the new Honda Brio (codename 2UA) as well as the Honda Amaze (codename 2UB), the latter being a sedan version of the Brio hatchback. Currently the Honda Brio’s availability is restricted to South East Asia and South Africa, with exports from India and Thailand.

The Brio and Brio Sedan (Amaze) are powered by a 1.2L i-VTEC four cylinder engine that outputs 65 kW (88.37 PS) and 109 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, while a 5-speed automatic is also available in the top-end grade.

In India price of the Brio (hatchback) starts from just INR 4.48 lac which converts into PKR 6.94 lac only, while the Amaze (sedan) is priced from INR 5.6 lac which converts into PKR 8.68 lac only.

While Honda Atlas has recently launched the 10th generation Honda Civic, which besides everything good is the most priciest Civic ever to be made in Pakistan and hence out of reach of the majority. And the City is already well above PKR 1.5 million.

Honda has indicated that the new platforms are being made for global markets, considering this, cars like the Brio & Amaze, if launched in Pakistan should help Honda Atlas to grasp a vast chunk of low-budget car market which is currently only enjoyed by Pak Suzuki with their rather obsolete offerings.

More on the Honda Brio & Honda Amaze to appear soon, stay tuned..
