Audi is in the process of developing a new mini car. Stretching about 139 inches long, the yet-unnamed model (likely to be called as A0) will slot below the A1 to fight head-to-head against the Opel Adam, the Renault Twingo, and the Fiat 500.

Insiders told British magazine Autocar that the car will ride on an evolution of the new small family (NSF) platform that underpins the Volkswagen Up!, the SEAT Mii, and the Škoda Citigo. It will be offered in two-door as well as four-door options.

It will be powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine or an all-electric drivetrain. A diesel won’t be offered for cost reasons, and front-wheel drive will be the only configuration offered because the NSF platform isn’t compatible with all-wheel drive. However, a rugged-looking all-road variant with a taller suspension could nonetheless join the lineup a little later in the production run.

Audi’s mini car is likely to be showcased at this year’s Paris Auto Show, to be held in October 2016. The production version isn’t scheduled to go on sale until 2019.
