2018 Honda Amaze- First Look

Honda revealed the second-generation Amaze sedan at Auto Expo 2018. The second-gen Honda Amaze’s development took place at Honda R&D Asia Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand. However, its market launch will take place in India first, reportedly in April this year.

The 2nd generation Amaze is considered a huge improvement over its predecessor, in terms of exterior, interior and performance.

Exterior:

The Honda Amaze has undergone a complete redesign with regards to its exterior. While the old Amaze looked like a hatchback with a boot pasted on its backside, the new one design is inspired by its bigger siblings.

The new angled headlamps up front, flank the grille which features twin chrome strips and the Honda emblem at the center. The bumper enhances the pointed look of the front end and hosts the fog lamps on either end.

The major design elements on the side include the new 15-inch alloy wheels and a character line that connects the headlamps and tail lights. The previous Amaze for instance, featured split lines that didn’t looked as clean as the new model. The rear end of the new Honda Amaze is dominated by the C-shaped tail lamps that are connected by a thick strip of chrome that run across the boot.

Interior:

On the inside, the 2018 Amaze has an all-new cabin layout and features a dual-tone black and beige theme with piano black highlighters and silver accents. The new Amaze now borrows 6th gen City’s steering wheel while the center console is dominated by the new tablet-like 7″ infotainment display and new buttons for the climate control setup. The new Amaze will also feature cruise control for the first time.

Safety:

In terms of safety, the new Honda Amaze gets multiple airbags along with anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) as well as electronic stability program (ESP).

Engine & Transmission:

The new second-generation Honda Amaze retains the engine options from its predecessor in the form of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. However, the biggest change comes in the gearbox options on offer. In addition to the existing the 5-speed manual gearbox, Honda is reportedly offering a CVT gearbox in both petrol and diesel versions.

The new 2018 Amaze will go on head-to-head with Maruti Dzire and Volkswagen Ameo in the entry level sedan segment in India. Official prices are yet to be announced but it’s expected to be slightly higher than the existing Amaze which sells for INR 5.74 lac (PKR 9.85 lac).

Along with Toyota & Suzuki in Pakistan, Honda is reportedly working on to introduce a smaller car by 2019, which can either be a 1.2 liter Brio hatchback or the Amaze subcompact sedan. It will be interesting to see which of these two (Brio/ Amaze) eventually end up being launched in our country.
