Toyota to Display Tj Cruiser Concept at Tokyo Motor Show

Toyota is to bring a number of new concept vehicles to the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, one of them being the Toyota TJ Cruiser.

The Tj Cruiser conceptualizes the idea of combining the rugged design of an actual SUV with the practicality of a cargo van. The “T” stands for Toolbox – emphasizing great utility – while “j” stands for joy. The Cruiser moniker on the other hand, is typically reserved for Toyota’s range of SUVs, but here it’s meant to express the powerful design of the Tj Cruiser.

Measuring 4,300 mm long, 1,775 mm wide and 1,620 mm tall, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the Tj Cruiser seats four passengers while large sliding doors allow for easier access into the cabin as well as easy loading and unloading of large items.

All seats are fully reclining to create a flat floor for storing items up to 3 meters in length such as surfboards. The back of the seats and deck boards have many tie-down points for anchoring items. The dashboard and center console have a clean design for a minimalistic look. The dashboard houses a full-width display that acts as an instrument cluster also. Other interior highlights include a two-spoke squarish steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system and electric parking brake.

The Tj Cruiser will be built using the next-generation TNGA platform and will be powered by a 2.0 liter hybrid powertrain with an “EV Mode” coupled with FWD or 4WD drivetrain layout. The Toyota Tj Cruiser concept is making its world debut at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show and will be on display from October 25 onward.
